Before Work Starts

Safety Starts Before Work Starts

Every SEP project begins with a pre-project risk assessment and live environmental risk map, with no works commencing until all risks have been identified and controlled.

Our in-house Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) team is embedded within project delivery from day one, ensuring safety is integrated into every stage of the project. Project-specific documentation, including Construction Phase Plans, Environmental Management Plans, Emergency Response Plans and Traffic Management Plans, provides a clear framework for safe delivery.

SEP's Request for Information (RFI) system promotes early client engagement, enabling technical queries to be resolved efficiently. Before starting work, all contractors complete a Risk Prediction Tool (RPT), a dynamic risk assessment that identifies task-specific hazards and confirms appropriate control measures are in place.

Controls

Safety Embedded. Risk Eliminated.

RAMS

Risk Assessment and Method Statement review and approval for all subcontractor activities 7 days prior to work commencement. No works begin without approved RAMS.

COSHH

Full COSHH assessment and management for all hazardous substances used on site. Data sheets to be provided by the contractor with task-specific RAMS.

Subcontractor Management

All subcontractors inducted to SEP and Client safety standards. Ongoing monitoring throughout the project programme.

Dedicated In-House EHS Team

SEP operates an in-house EHS function — not a third-party consultant brought in at the end. Our EHS team is part of the project delivery team from day one.

Pre-Project Risk Planning

Comprehensive risk assessments and live environment risk mapping completed before any works commence. Not a box-ticking exercise — a genuine project planning tool.

External Independent Audits

SEP commissions external independent safety audits on its projects — providing clients with third-party assurance of SEP's safety performance.

Toolbox Talks

Daily toolbox talks are mandatory on all SEP sites. Topics are selected based on the specific activities and risks of that day's programme.

Permit Systems

Hot work, confined space, working at height and other permit-to-work systems operated consistently across all SEP sites.

Zero RIDDOR Record

Zero RIDDOR reportable incidents across £500m+ of capital project delivery. Not an aspiration — a confirmed, current record.

CDM 2015

CDM Capability

SEP holds both Principal Designer and Principal Contractor CDM roles. This means clients can appoint SEP at the earliest project stage, ensuring that safety and buildability are integrated into design from the outset — not added as a compliance exercise during construction.

Principal Designer

SEP is qualified and experienced in the principal designer CDM role, providing clients with a single accountable party across the full project lifecycle.

Principal Contractor

SEP is qualified and experienced in the principal contractor CDM role, providing clients with a single accountable party across the full project lifecycle.
